Bowen Serves as Strategic Advisor to Wickr

BOSTON, July 29, 2021 – Bowen is pleased to announce that Wickr, developer of the world’s most secure collaboration platform, has been acquired by Amazon Web Services (AWS) (Nasdaq: AMZN). Wickr is the collaboration and communications tool of choice for the U.S. Air Force, multiple U.S. government departments and Fortune 1000 enterprise customers. Bowen acted as the exclusive sellside M&A advisor to Wickr in this transaction.

Developed by a world-class team of crypto experts, Wickr provides zero trust, end-to-end encrypted (E2EE) messaging, file sharing, voice and video collaboration. The Wickr platform is the only collaboration service with full functionality to meet all security criteria outlined by the National Security Agency.

“E2EE is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to cryptography applications to secure data across mediums and devices. We are excited to join the AWS team which shares our vision, and will help scale our platform,” said Joel Wallenstrom, CEO of Wickr. “When we were looking for bankers, we were pleased to find a team in Bowen that understands the opportunity to bring next-generation technologies to the defense sector. Bowen was a true partner, not just advising and guiding us through the process, but they even switched their collaboration tool to Wickr and ran the project on our platform, providing thoughtful product suggestions along the way.”

“As a Naval Academy graduate and Navy veteran, I am often asked why it took so long for Bowen to expand into Defense Tech,” said Paul Bowen, Founder & CEO of Bowen. “The answer lies in reversing the question, as we are now seeing defense organizations increasingly modernize by deploying emerging technologies like automation, AI and E2EE collaboration. Wickr perfectly represents the value that dual-use technologies can produce for the military, enterprises, investors and employees. Defense Tech is now Growth Tech, and we are all in.”
