Bowen Advisors Serves as Strategic Advisor to Learning Machine

BOSTON, February 6, 2020 – Bowen Advisors is pleased to announce that Learning Machine, a pioneer in blockchain-secured trusted identity and credentials, has been acquired by leading content services provider Hyland, a Thoma Bravo portfolio company. Bowen Advisors acted as the exclusive sellside M&A advisor to Learning Machine in this transaction.

Backed by Silicon Alley investors and significant family offices, Learning Machine provides blockchain-anchored digital credential solutions that are immutable, human & machine-readable and instantly verifiable. Built on top of the Blockcerts open standard credential format that was co-developed by the Learning Machine team and MIT, the company’s issuing system allows governments, companies and educational institutions to issue official records at scale, rooted in any blockchain they choose. With this acquisition, Hyland will build off of Learning Machine’s success in education and leverage its technology across Hyland’s other vertical markets.

“Blockchain is a groundbreaking technology with the potential to disrupt many different industries, but has been massively overshadowed by cryptocurrencies,” said Paul Bowen, President of Bowen Advisors. “The Learning Machine transaction represents a validation of productizing a blockchain application and building a SaaS-based business model. We believe this is the tip of the iceberg for blockchain applications as large software companies such as Hyland look to leverage the technology across business processes globally.”
